Dyadic Art Therapy

Do you feel that drawing is therapeutic? Do you like to tell a story through the objects that you draw? If you are given a chance to create a piece of artwork to express yourself, would you display your inner child?

Parents are often most connected with their child when they try to see the world from the eyes of their child. Children often show an interest in art making when they are given the chance to create. Art therapy can be a fun time for children to spark creativity and originality. It can also be a process joined by a parent to strengthen the parent-child relationship through art making.

There is a different form of Art Therapy – Dyadic Art Therapy, which can be used to enhance the parent-child relationship and create a special bond. Dyadic art therapy is a joined-up approach to art therapy involving children and their parents in joint art therapy sessions. The rationale behind Dyadic Art Therapy is for the art therapist to observe the relationship between the parent and child so as to facilitate creative and playful activities that require the participation of both.

Viviana’s Dyadic Art Therapy will help:
• To facilitate reflective discussions between the parent and the child
• To foster the child’s active engagement in the therapy and make them feel safe
• To enhance the intimate attachment and emotional bond between the parent and child
• To develop the child’s problem-solving skills and coping abilities
• To facilitate the child’s muscle movement and body coordination
• To spark the child’s creativity and originality
• To improve the child’s self-esteem and self-confidence
• To strengthen the child’s verbal and communicational skills
• To enhance the parent’s caregiving skills
